Tsu-ma-as Transformation Centre - Port Alberni
Vancouver Island

Providing a focus for economic and social development in Vancouver Island’s Alberni Valley, the Tsu-ma-as Transformation Centre is a new First Nations cultural and interpretive centre that has received more than $1.7 million in federal and provincial infrastructure funding.
The 8,200 square foot centre includes museum displays, a gallery for local art, a multimedia theatre, an exhibition hall and administrative offices. The centre will tell the story of the local First Nations people as well as others who have helped build this part of British Columbia. It’s intended to be an attraction to the valley’s visitors as well as the hub of local community and cultural activities.
The Hupacasath First Nation has planned the centre to serve as a catalyst for the transformation of the community, linking the past with the future and benefitting all residents of the Port Alberni area.
