StrongStart BC Centres - Surrey

Vancouver Coast and Mountains

It’s difficult to find anyone who disagrees with the notion that kids who get off to a good start at school tend to fare better as they grow up and stand a better chance of doing well later in life. That’s why the B.C. Government has been assisting the establishment of StrongStart early learning centres at elementary schools in many communities.

StrongStart centres provide pre-school-age children with quality early learning on a free drop-in basis, helping make sure kids are ready to start school once they’re old enough for kindergarten.

In Surrey, 10 elementary schools have been chosen as locations for StrongStart centres. The first two - at Bridgeview Elementary and Cougar Creek Elementary - began serving pre-schoolers in 2006 and 2007 respectively.

To encourage early learning and good use of underutilized school space, the Province has committed $43 million for 400 StrongStart BC centres by 2010 as part of ReadNow BC, the provincial literacy plan.
