Prince Rupert Port Expansion

Northern

Exciting things are happening in Prince Rupert, where port improvements are playing a major role in transforming that community into a major hub for trade between Asia and North America.

In 2005, the B.C. Government committed $30 million to expand the Port of Prince Rupert, with the federal government providing the same amount. That funding has helped create a state-of-the-art port that includes an intermodal container terminal, modern grain and coal terminals and a new cruise ship terminal.

Prince Rupert’s potential as an international port is huge, as it is North America’s closest port to Asia and is blessed with the continent’s deepest natural harbour. With one of the largest transcontinental railways and a major transcontinental highway connecting Prince Rupert to the rest of North America, the sky’s the limit for future trade growth through the port.
