UBC Northern Medical Program

Northern

The UBC Northern Medical Program is meeting the critical need of northern British Columbia communities for highly qualified health care professionals, and it’s doing it because the spirit of northern residents made it happen.

Born out of the uncompromising hard work of northerners who spoke out loud and clear for quality medical training in the region, the Northern Health Sciences Centre uses cutting-edge technology to deliver medical education.

The UBC Northern Medical Program is a partnership between the University of Northern British Columbia and the University of B.C. It’s a key element of the UBC Medical School’s expansion, and its goal is to train physicians in the north to work in the north.

This innovative program is being delivered through a combination of traditional face-to-face instruction, learning from local doctors in the north, and cutting edge videoconference and internet technology.

It’s both a practical solution to longstanding health care challenge in the region and a source of great pride in the north.
