Mackenzie Spirit Square

In 2009, Mackenzie will be the latest British Columbia community to have the honour of hosting a major celebration: the Northern BC Winter Games. When the Games get underway, Mackenzie’s new Spirit Square will be a big part of the event.
A year-round community celebration meeting place with a performance stage, Mackenzie Spirit Square is using existing green space adjacent to the local recreation centre, museum, arts centre and secondary school. Its design is based on the community’s forest industry history, and incorporates First Nation elements.
The community received a provincial grant of more than $340,000 to make the Spirit Square a reality, and it’s going to serve as a focus for community activities long into the future.
