East Kootenay Regional Hospital

Kootenays

Kootenay residents tend to be a hard-working and persistent group, and their persistence that paid off in a big way in 2006 when East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook officially opened its doors as a referral centre for residents of the east Kootenays.

The hospital’s transformation came about through a $32 million renovation project that enabled the hospital to offer the region’s first ever full slate of specialist physicians and services at a hospital close to home.

The project included a new emergency department, diagnostic imaging department and a state-of-the-art ambulatory care centre for patients who receive treatment at the hospital without needing to stay there overnight. East Kootenay Regional Hospital also got a new main entrance and lobby along with other improvements.

For residents of the East Kootenays, the upgraded hospital means a wider range of health services are available in the region at a facility that’s now well equipped to serve the region for decades to come.
