Duteau Creek Water Treatment Plant – Vernon

Thompson Okanagan

Local water systems generally don’t get a lot of attention – except when something goes wrong and water quality is considered to be at risk. Like many other communities, people in Greater Vernon have been working hard to minimize that kind of attention while maximizing water quality.

Assisted by $1.66 million in Municipal-Rural Infrastructure Fund grant money, communities in the Greater Vernon area are working to improve water quality through a range of investments, including the $19 million Duteau Creek Water Treatment Plant.

With construction planning underway, the plant will disinfect and clarify drinking water drawn from Duteau Creek, and will add filtration in the future. This addresses past concerns about turbidity, colour and disinfection of water from that source.

This investment will bring lasting benefits to local residents. The bottom line is safer and higher quality water for people living in Greater Vernon.
