Canada Line
Vancouver Coast and Mountains

Adding the equivalent of ten major road lanes of transportation capacity while actually reducing the need for people to drive their cars, the new $1.9 billion Canada Line rapid transit system will play a big part in preserving quality of life in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland, while also boosting the economy.
Connecting downtown Vancouver with downtown Richmond and Vancouver International Airport, the line will relieve congestion in one of the province’s busiest transportation corridors, serving areas that are home to a third of the region’s jobs and a fifth of the residential population.
The Canada Line, due to go into operation in 2009, includes 16 stations, a park-and-ride facility and three bus exchanges. It makes Vancouver International Airport one of few international airports with a rapid transit line linking it to downtown.
Expected to play a big role in accommodating athletes and visitors during the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, the line will help meet the region’s long-term transportation needs. In combination with other planned rapid transit improvements, it will also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, helping our province achieve its climate action goals.
