Campbell River Ultraviolet Disinfection Facilities

Vancouver Island

British Columbia is known for the high quality of the public drinking water in numerous communities across many regions. Yet even the best water can be compromised if modern facilities aren’t in place to ensure its safety.

That’s why many communities have been taking steps to ensure the quality of local water well into the future. Doing so is vital to the long term health of any community.

On Vancouver Island, Campbell River is one such community. There, the community undertook a $3.98 million project to add ultraviolet disinfection facilities at each of two intakes that draw water from separate locations on John Hart Lake. Ultraviolet disinfection adds a second layer of protection in a “multi-barrier approach” to meeting enhanced drinking water standards.

In 2005, the B.C. Government’s Water Improvement Program contributed $2.65 million toward the Campbell River project, helping ensure that Campbell River’s excellent drinking water will remain clean and healthy in the future.
