BCIT Aerospace

Vancouver Coast and Mountains

Canada’s newest aerospace centre, BCIT Aerospace Technology Campus is launching the careers and successes of British Columbians. Opened in September 2007, the campus can accommodate 1,000 students in a distinctive 28,000 square metre facility.  The B.C. Government provided $16.4 million towards this $77 million facility that’s Western Canada’s premier aerospace centre.

This innovative facility at the gateway to the Vancouver International Airport  features a control tower simulator, making BCIT the first Canadian post-secondary institution to have this technology.

The new campus has 40 classrooms, computer labs, a library and a seminar room with global teleconferencing capabilities and includes a 3,700 square metre glass hangar that accommodates BCIT’s fleet of 20 training aircraft, including a Boeing 737. Adjoining the hangar are workshops, where students get a true feel for working in a real-world maintenance facility.

Building on its 50 years of aerospace training, this new and expanded facility enables BCIT to offer a full range of aviation maintenance and repair programs as well as commercial pilot training and air traffic control programs.

With the need for skilled aerospace workers expected to be greater than the future supply, the doubled capacity of the new BCIT campus is good news for this important industry.

It’s also good news for British Columbians looking for exciting new careers on the cutting edge of technology.
